The hike up to Sid’s Mountain has been on my to do list for a while. So with the long weekend, my dad, brother, and me went out for an overnight trip. Saturday was hot and by the time we left it was already noon.
The trail down looked nice at the start.
But as soon as the road ended the trail got steep and rough.
About halfway down, we spotted an alcove that was calling our name for a rest.
Some names.
Finally we made it down to the bottom of the wash. It wasn’t too bad but there were some hairy spots that made us uneasy. We stopped to rest under some cottonwoods and spotted a toad and a neat bug.
We followed a more direct route to the top of the mountain which was just as rough as the trail going down. But finally we made to the top. It was a long climb up.
After some cross country walking we found the horse trail. It has been a well used trail.
An approaching storm.
After what seemed like forever, we made it to the cabin. It was nice place to stop, set up camp, and take a nap.
We woke to the sound of rain that morning. We went and found a nearby geocache and then packed up camp.
After we got our wet tent packed we were off. We just followed the horse trail until it lead down the cliffs. The trail down was rocky and didn’t look like fun to take a horse up.
After getting down, all of our water was gone. So we stopped at a nice water hole and filled up to be filtered later. We spent 30 minutes just laying around and drinking water.
The climb out was long and hard. The site of the truck was nice and inside was waiting some cold Gatorade. I can’t believe Udink and others did it in one day.
It was hard enough for me in two.

Looks like an awesome time. I enjoyed that place and I’ve wanted to go back for an overnighter so I could explore the mesa some more, but I just haven’t gotten around to it. Did you get a chance to check out the rock art there?

It was a fun trip. The climb in and out of the the wash was rough. We were pretty bushed so no, we didn’t check out the art. We were too tired to go any farther and getting our water supply was getting low.
