Heart of the Desert
With the nice weather this weekend, I decided to do something in the desert. So on Friday, I loaded up 20 geocaches into my Etrex. On Saturday, Dad and I went off geocaching. We arrived at the trail head for the Heart of the desert geocache series at 11:00. The caches were arranged into a heart shape. We almost didn’t go because my Etrex kept freezing up and would have to pull the batteries to turn reset it. It kept doing this until after the second cache. It wasn’t cold out, so I have no idea what was going on, maybe I need to buy a new gps.
The first 4 caches were relatively easy. To reach the fifth one, we had to cross a wash. Climbing down was a little rough because we went down a side wash that had small dryfall we had to climb around. It took us 1 hour and 15 minutes to reach the fifth cache. The next few caches were easy to get to. At 9, my dog cut his paw and we had to take turns carrying him the rest of the way. Number 10 was up on a hill, it was a steep climb up and at 10 we took a break to have a granola bar. From there the rest were all easy, it took us a little over 5 hours to walk about 6 miles. It was fun to find and we were the second cachers to find these caches, the first was Udink.
On the way home my brakes were making an odd noise so today I am going to tear into them. I hope I can find the problem and fix it fairly easy.

I came across your blog from a Google search on geocaching. I love all the photos on this blog. Excellent! We vacationed up in Arches many, many years ago. Looks a lot like your photos.
I just published a post on my blog recommending your site to our readers. Hope you don’t mind.

Congrats on finding the series. You’ve really gotta love the desert to head out there and spend that much time looking for caches. It’s great to find so many in a single day in the Swell though!

Great website. My key interest is geocaching but I love mountain climbing, hiking and camping. I will follow your blog!
