Bell Canyon
After a long winter, I was getting anxious to get out and explore the sandstone. I decided to hike Bell canyon, right next to Little Wild Horse. The roads were dry and smooth until I reached the Sinkhole after the sinkhole the roads got muddy and rutted. I hoped the Temple Mountain road would be better but after passing under I-70 the road was muddy. It was a small section of mud but there were many mud holes along the way. Finally after passing the turnoff to Red’s Canyon the roads were good to go. I arrived at the Little Wild Horse parking lot and was amazed at all the people. All of them were in shiny clean vehicles ranging from Subaru’s to Suburbans. My car was the only dirty one. Everyone must have come from the Hanksville road. I had never done Bell Canyon and it was a nice hike, it is not as spectacular as Little Wild Horse but good nonetheless. Nearing the end the wind began to blow and dark clouds were moving in. So I turned around and began to walk out. I only ran into 3 people in Bell, everyone must have been in Little Wild Horse. I didn’t want to drive in mud so I took US 24 to I-70 and turned off on the Buckhorn Wash road avoiding Temple Mountain road. There were a lot of people in Buckhorn and many atvs. It was a good day in the Swell. Some more pics.
